The World Teacher’s day celebration in Osun State, “The state of the virtuous”, was marked in low key with prayer sessions instead of the usual parade at the NUT House in Osogbo, the state’s capital.

The NUT Chairman for the state, Mr. Amudah Wakeel, said the decision was taken as a result of the challenges Nigeria was struggling with, especially the economic recession.

In a speech he delivered, he called on the Federal Government to consider the teachers’ demand for a raise in their retirement age from 60 to 65 years.

Furthermore, he stated some of the problems facing teachers in the state to include payment of half salary, but gave the assurance that they would remain committed to their jobs.

Osun State Deputy Governor in person of Titi Laoye-Tomori urged the teachers to rededicate themselves to impacting quality knowledge in the children.

She noted that whatever they teach would reflect on the wards and reassured them of the state government’s commitment to their welfare.

Hopefully and prayerfully there would be “CHANGE”. I pray there is — soonest.

ACEONDO Notice To Degree II - IV On JAMB Admission Letter Printing

The admission lettersfor Degree II and IV students of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo State (ACEONDO) that have willingly paid the prescribed fee of Five Thousand Naira (N5, 000.00) would be ready for printing on JAMB Website as from August 22nd, 2016.

This information was contained in a circular issued from the office of the Deputy Registrar, Division of Admission, Mr. P.A Okunniga dated 22nd June, 2016 and copied to all Principal Officers of the College including the Provost, Prof. Olukoya Ogen; Registrar, Mr. Felix Aderinboye; Acting Librarian, Mr Akinade Awoyemi; Bursar, Mr Ganiyu Abdul.

Also copied were Deans / Directors, Heads of Department/Units, School Officers, Principal Assistant Registrar, Information and Public Relations Unit; Dean, Student Affairs as well as President, Students’ Union.

Similarly, a copy of the circular was also pasted on all notice boards placed in strategic positions in the College for the attention of students.

Post UTME — UNILAG Is Waiting For FG's Guideline To Decide The Mode Of Screening: VC

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos in an interview with news men has stated that the University of Lagos is yet to announce any procedure for screening of candidates in the 2016/2017 session as the university is waiting for guidelines from the government.

According to him,"We are yet to conclude because government has asked us to stay action and wait for a guideline before deciding on the mode of screening, but definitely there will be screening," he said.

He urged UNILAG prospective students to regularly visit the website for updates. Commenting on the admission exercise for 2016/2017, the Deputy Registrar, Information Unit, Mr Toyin Adebule, told bewsmen that during the 2016 UTME registration, no fewer than 60,000 candidates applied for admission in UNILAG, which can accommodate only a little over 7,000.

UI Students’ Union — We Made a Mistake Protesting

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has admitted that it was a mistake to have gone on protest in an effort to get Tunde Ekpeti, a 500level student of Petroleum Engineering popularly known as ‘Mote’ reinstated. Ojo Oluwafemi who said this was just sworn in as the New Students Union President, took over from Olateju Oladimeji whose tenure spearheaded the ‘Reinstate Mote’s agitation’.

This was said by the Students’ Union President, Ojo Oluwafemi Emmanuel.

Ojo said students made a partial mistake protesting before appealing for reinstatement of Tunde Ekpeti at the level of the Governing Council. The students’ Union President said “We made a little mistake protesting before approaching the Governing Council to appeal for reinstatement of Mote, the truth is University of Ibadan operates committee system and we should have waited for two weeks before embarking on protest, the Governing Council was meant to meet when our(Students) protests entered its second week but we already went ahead with our protests.”

The Students Union President also attacked National Association of Nigerian Students over what he termed derogatory letter the body wrote to UI Vice Chancellor, Prof Olayinka Idowu Abel, he said “The letter written to the Vice Chancellor by NANS was also derogatory, the Vice Chancellor even said this, if Tunde was reinstated then, it would look like the school was scared or was cajoled into reinsataing him, the Vice Chancellor already stated it that he only aligns really with the Students’ Union and not NANS who he is not Accountable to.”

The Newly elected Students’ Union President who took over in the month of June further stressed that the case of Tunde Ekpeti needs diplomacy and Not protest, he said “Sincerely, this case needs diplomacy, ‘Mote’ was able to meet with the Vice Chancellor on Saturday, 25th of June and they discussed extensively, even the current Vice Chancellor was not the one that sat on his(Mote’s) case, the case occurred in the Month of November and the new VC was sworn in the Month of December, he trusted the deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration to have carried out proper works before recommending suspension of Tunji, and he assented to it, even the Dean Students’ Affairs, A.T.P Ajuape, has threatened to resign if ‘Mote’ is reinstated” Ojo Oluwafemi concluded.

University of Ibadan was opened recently after more than a month Shut down due to Students’ Protest.

The Students had gone on rampage to Protest the alleged illegal suspension of Tunde Ekpeti and leaving conditions on Campus which they termed “Uncomfortable and bad.”

FG Insists No More Post-UTME, Directs That Money Paid By Candidates Be Refunded

The Minister of Education, Mr. Adamu Adamu, on Monday, emphasized again that tertiary institutions should stop the conduct of Post-UTME. He directed those who have already advertised the exercise under any guise to retrace their steps immediately or face appropriate sanction.

He equally directed that all tertiary institutions who before now has conduction the exercise to return the money paid by candidates as the exercise stands annulled.

The minister made this known through the Deputy Director (Press and Public Relations) in the ministry, Mr. Ben Bem Goong and instructed that that National Universities Commission and appropriate departments in the ministry communicate this directive to relevant agencies and institutions to ensure strict compliance.

According to him, the screening that will be recognized is such one that involves only the verification of certificates of the candidates, JAMB scores, and any other physical examination to ensure that such candidates are not cultists. Such screening should be at no cost to the parents or students and should be done upon resumption in order to avoid unnecessary travels in search of admission.

The minister will tomorrow meet with Vice chancellors, rectors and provosts as well as other stake holders to work out modalities for the conduct of admission screening.

Osun Crisis: Throwing Nails On The Floor of Schools

Like a Prophet, I predicted this many problems months ago, the glory started fading so long ago, like an old Jean, we Pride no longer in the “Ipinle of Omoluabi.”

Before schools become a place to visit and return with injuries or to return with holes drilled by nails of naivety, attention should be paid to Osun State.

Since the day policies did not match with realities, we were always going to have a cold war.

The Hijab crisis is only one of the issues threatening Osun State, there are several others that did not make the Limelight, the situation in Osun state is just like leaving necessary things and chasing shadows, we have left the essentials and fight over what does not improve the quality of three meal per day.

I have asserted and will continue to say, mismanagement of Religion is a bane of Nigeria, just like we are seeing Osun state.

Osun state is very peculiar because since economy is nose diving, salaries owed, people are annoyed at the government and have seen this Hijab crisis as an avenue to vent complete anger, after all there was a point students protested against the Governor.

There is one painful fact, Christians and Muslims have failed to lead by example, even Biblical and Quaranic teachings preach peace, people should not just see the Hijab crisis as another issue, it is definitely an eye opener to issues of Religious intolerance in the country, if Muslim and Christian leaders cannot resolve differences in believes without turning it to Pseudo-Violence, then something is practically wrong somewhere.

Religious leaders should be role models that even the Government would look up to, they should preach alternative conflict resolution, we all should remember that it is not the clothing that will take us to Heaven, it is our attitude, you cannot fight for God!.

Countries have suffered from Religious differences, it seems the barrier created by religion is now a norm in our society and this is practically absurd, we are meant to cohabit in peace and progress.

I read it that some Muslim Clerics also stormed a school and enforced the use of Hijab, I begin to wonder, when did they become Law enforcement agents?

Beyond the use of Hijab, there is more to crisis in schools whether as Christians or Muslims, we should not be blinded by emotions.

The Government merged all Students together but never worked on reorientating this students on necessity to live together, the government never envisaged a day that unity will be questioned, this was bound to happen because diversity should have been considered and massive reorientation should have been done, even as the court ruled, there are many cases beyond the court, it takes wisdom from the Government to avert crisis.

The Government had no point issuing a press statement on the Hijab crisis saying they will deal with some persons or discipline them, the Government ought to have explored conflict resolution approaches.

Remember, had the government been paying salaries, Jobs available and things going fine, there will be less attention on minor issues like this that have become big.

I spoke with the Spokesman of the Governor, he said Christians can put on beret to school too, it is painful that Education that should unite people from various background is now a source of division, I wonder what sort of future leaders we are building, when we teach our Muslim and Christian youths art of violence, when we can’t show them that even when issues arise based on faith we can solve them without resorting to crisis.

The Government should understand that Osun State should not be a theatre for religious wars, Religious leaders should sit down and reach an agreeing point rather than showing control.

The first responsibility of every Government is her citizens and residents, if we cannot govern the society in a way that peace will reign then it is losing the essence of Government.

If we cannot handle issues as religious leaders peacefully, then we are not fulfilling the purpose of religion, which should be love and peace.

If we do not take care, the real reason for been literate will be lost and we will have youths who will not think differently and who will lack vision! Whether Christians or Muslims we should learn from happenings in countries of the world and understand that conflict will forever always occur! Our ways of handling them mattersmatters

OAU 2016/17 Admission Screening Starts, to be Based on Jamb and WAEC Result

Obafemi Awolowo University has unveiled procedures for admission screening into the University for 2016/17 session.

This was communicated through a press statement from the university Registrar, Mr Awoyemi.

Read the statement below:
“Candidates who made Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife their first choice in the 2016 UTME/DE and scored 200 and above are hereby inform to log on to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife website ( www.oauife.edu.ng) or eportal.oauife.edu.ng for their admission screening, Candidates are required to log on to University eportal and click on 2016 ADMISSION SCREENING-UTME/DE APPLICANTS using their JAMB Registration Numbers to download RRR (Remita Retrieval Reference) and use it to pay for Eportal Access Charge on Remita platform which accepts cash payment via bank or master card.”

The statement further read, “Candidates can access the University eportal anywhere to effect payment in any branch of Banks, Candidates who are awaiting results are also eligible to apply for the screening, Only awaiting result candidates who applied within the specified period will be allowed to upload their results when they are released.”

Thereafter, candidates will be required to do the following on the EPORTAL after payment has been confirmed by Remita on the EPORTAL: 1. Update JAMB data

2. Upload SSCE result (WAEC or NECO)

3. Scan copy of certificate/online WAEC or NECO result (Statement of result from schools not allowed)

4. Upload picture (if not available)

5. Print Admission Screening Report Closing Date for screening of UTME candidate is 15th July, 2016 while the Closing date for screening of Direct Entry is 30th July, 2016.

Candidates are required to bring copies of the Admission Screening Report on resumption if admitted.

This new procedures is due to Federal Government directive that Post UTME should be scrapped.

Fed College Of Agric Akure Admission Screening 2016: Eligibility And Registration Details

Federal College of Agriculture, Akure invites application from suitably qualified candidates for admission into its full-time National Diploma Programmes for 2016/2017 academic session.

Interested JAMB UTME candidates for ND programs who made the college their choice and scored up to 180 should visit the college website to apply for post UTME by filling the online form after paying the applicable fee.

UTME candidates who did not make Federal College of Agriculture their choice can also apply for change of institution through the college.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
WASC or GCE O’Level or SSCE / NECO /NABTEB with a minimum of five (5) credit passes obtained at not more than two sittings. The five subjects must include Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science plus three other subjects from Economics, English Language, Geography, Mathematics, Physics or Statistics.

Candidates must in addition obtained at least Credit Passes in English Language and Mathematics or Statistics.

Five credit passes in NBTE recognized preliminary National Diploma Course offered in a Polytechnic or Similar Post Secondary Institution. The five Credit Passes must be from the subjects specified in (a) above

METHOD OF APPLICATION: All applicants should go through the college portal at http://portal.feca.edu.ng /cportal/web to generate the RRR that they will use to pay either electronically through ATM card, online bank transfer or cash payment at any Union Bank or any other banks with the generated RRR.

Applicants having difficulties with online application should visit the College Campus, Ado/Owo Road, Opposite Housing Corporation.

‘OSE IGBERAGA’ AND ‘IFE IGBEYIN’ on OAU campus

Ose Igberaga and Ife Igbeyin are two distinct terms that can only be understood by those who have undergone the Great Ife system.

Ose igberaga basically is the first week of resumption (though to some it takes longer) when you can afford almost everything sold on campus while Ife Igbeyin is the point when you are as poor as a lonely tree growing in the desert and that is the point when you appreciate the taste of garri and all the nutritional value inherent (If at all there is any) :-D .

As mentioned earlier, Ose Igberaga is that part of the semester when you can afford almost everything sold on campus especially ostentatious stuffs. It’s a point when you can hardly differentiate between those from affluent homes and those from the opposite because everybody is financially okay. At this point, Your foodstuff is intact, your look is fresh and above all, your pocket is filled to the brim.

I remember an experience around 2010. It was the first day of resumption and I set out to enjoy the life of my head when I stumbled on Yinka (pseudonym), a roommate who was on the same mission of purchasing suya. My mouth was left wide opened when Yinka who was unaware of my presence ordered for N400 suya. Miraculously, Yinka begged for groundnut oil two weeks later. Within the spate of two weeks, he has succeeded in graduating from Ose Igberaga to Ife Igbeyin.

Ife Igbeyin is that part of the semester when your wretchedness is unthinkable :-). At this point, you don’t mind begging from your enemy. You stop taking bike to class, you resort to water supplied by the school management ( Omi Omole ) lol :-P ; instead of sachet water, garri becomes your best food, and you ration your foodstuff by measuring.

May we not experience Ife Igbeyin in our lives.

On New VC: We Will Continue to Picket OAU Senate Building till July 6 — NASU

Non Academic Staff Union of Universities has vowed to continue with her protests till July 6, 2016.

The Chairman of NASU Comrade Wole Odewunmi said:

“The University Governing Council should keep committing illegality, on July 6, we would know if they actually received a court injunction or not.”

On whether the Association will keep protesting NASU Chairman stressed that “We will keep picketing the Senate building, we will resume at our work place, immediately its 10AM, we will assemble at motion ground to continue picketing, that’s not more like a protest, its picketing.”

On whether NASU will block any attempt to install Prof Salami as VC, Comrade Wole asked everyone to be calm and watch as events unfold.

It will be recalled that OAU Governing Council officially announced Prof Salami as VC OAU on Sunday, 19th June, 2016.

OAU Pre-Degree Second Contact Test Results Released

The Management of the Centre of Distance Learning of the Obafemi Awolowo University has released the second contact test results of its Pre-degree students.

The result was released on the evening of Saturday, June 18, 2016 and the management has asked the students to check their results on the notice board as soon as possible.

Following the resumption of the students of the University of Ibadan as announced by its management, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Oyo Joint campuses have resolved to resume their protest as the management of the Institution is said to have not appropriately resolved the issues that led to the closure. The attention of the executive council of National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee (NANS JCC), Oyo State was drawn to verdicts of the Students' Disciplinary Committee (SDC) sitting which took place on Wednesday 30th of May, 2016 at the University of Ibadan.

We took the path of calling for redress of the Students' Disciplinary Committee (SDC) with a on Monday 25th of April, 2016. But the management sent students home and called them back after 7 weeks with the issues unattended to.

Till date, the management has refused to bulge. We like to bring to your notice GREATEST NIGERIAN STUDENTS that no sign of redress or reception of our effort is shown. The shun from the management of the University rubbishes our CONSULTATION and giving no room for CONSOLIDATION.

Oyo State NANS JCC is known to be the most ideological, reactive, intelligent, accommodating, progressive, militant and radical axis of students movement in the nation and we are rigid on upholding what we are known for by billions of students that believes in indefatigable actions to make sure students are not unjustly punished, intimidated, oppressed and victimised in all ramifications.

The negligence of our consultation satisfy the popular saying of Human Right Activists "Freedom is not giving willingly by Oppressors, it must be forcefully demanded by the Oppressed, there will be massive lockdown of the school's gate on Monday 20th of June , 2016 by 8am until our demands are met.

Amidst ongoing NASU protest, OAU Officially Announce Prof Salami as New VC

Obafemi Awolowo University Governing Council has confirmed Prof Ayobami Salami as new VC of OAU, read their press statement below

“The Governing Council, at its Special meeting held on June 6, 2016, considered the report of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board for the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor for the University and decided to appoint Professor Ayobami Taofeek Salami as the eleventh Vice-Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife, for a term of five years with effect from June 24, 2015.”

Professor Ayobami Salami, aged 52, hails from Ibadan, specifically from Akinyele Local Government Area in Oyo Central Senatorial District, Oyo State, Nigeria.

He attended the following higher educational institutions:

University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife – 1982 – 1986

Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife 1987 – 1989

African Regional Centre for Training in Aerospace Surveys – 1989 – 1990

Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife – 1992 – 1996

He possesses the following qualifications:

Sc (Geography) 1986

Sc (Land Use and Natural Resources Management) 1989 PGD (Remote Sensing Applications/GIS) 1990 .D (Space Applications and Land Use/Natural Resources Management) 1996

Professor Salami joined the services of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife as a Research Fellow II in the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Studies on 1st February, 1991.

He rose through the ranks to the grade of Professor on 1st October, 2003. He had served as the Director, Institute of Ecology and Environmental Studies of the University (2006 – 2010) and Head, Space Applications and Environmental Science Laboratory (2005 till date).

He is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) since 1st August, 2011.

Professor Salami had also served as a Member of the Senate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, from 2003 till date after having served as an Elected Member from 1996 – 2000.

In addition, he had served as a Member of the University Governing Council from 2003 – 2007 and had at various times, served on several committees in the University either as Member or Chairman.

Professor Salami has to his credit, several university, national and international fellowships, honours, awards and consultancies. He had also served as a Member of the Accreditation Panel of the National Universities Commission to various universities in Nigeria at different times.

Professor Salami has obtained numerous grants from several organizations such as National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Abuja; Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); Ecological Fund Office, Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, The Presidency, Abuja; National Centre for Remote Sensing, Jos; International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), The Netherlands; International Secretariat of System Analysis for Research and Training-International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), Washington D.C.; UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission; United Nations Development Program (UNDP); United Nations Environment Program (UNEP); International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy; Ramboll Natura AB, Sweden; European Union (EU);

International Development Research Centre (IDRC); and International Steering Committee for Global Mapping (ISCGM), Japan among others. An Eisenhower Fellow (USA) since 2009, Professor Salami has supervised the thesis of 7 Ph.D. and 31 M.Sc. degree students in the University and is currently supervising 3 Ph.D. students. He has served as an External Examiner to several foreign and Nigerian Universities. He delivered the 220th Inaugural Lecture of the University titled “Space Applications and Ecological Haemorrhage: The Nigerian Experience” in 2009. Professor Ayobami Salami has 75 publications to his credit in Books, Journals, Conference Proceedings and Technical Papers. A renowned Professor of Space Applications and Environmental Studies, Professor Ayobami Salami is married to Professor (Mrs.) Abiodun Olusola Salami and they are blessed with children.

Good morning. I'll be making a very brief introduction of Java Programming Language to us — which is what you need :-D but first you need to know what a Computer Program is.

A computer program is a series of instruction that tells the computer what to do. Everything the computer does is done by using a computer program.

Some examples of where you see computer programs are in the popular browser, Mozilla Firefox, in our day-to-day Office (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and also in computer games like Pro Evolution Soccer, Grand Theft Auto, Subway Surfers :-D yeah! Subway Surfers.

That been said, what is Java?

Java is a high level programming language developed by Sun Microsystems.
